My week as a sports reporter

So...tonight is my last night as a sports reporter for the Register-Pajaronian. It's been a fun week--I've certainly learned a lot and it's been fun working well into the evening putting together the next day's paper with Trisha and Jose and whatever reporter is working late.
Right now, the police are on a scene of a crime where shots were fired and one person is injured. It's 10:30 p.m., but we've got to get the info for tomorrow's front page. A lot different from the Atascadero News, that's for sure.
I've included a few photos I've taken this week. I spent more time in the office typing up briefs and laying out the sports section and editing pages. I've been getting back to my wonderful home for the week--the Motel 6--between midnight and 1 a.m. I never stay up that late anymore. I'm getting old.
I'm heading home tomorrow morning. Yea! Just in time to help Kelly move us to Paso Robles--that itself is another topic for another day, as I've been getting plenty of flack for that move.

We're on ProDPI's blog

Just found us on Pro DPI's blog. Check it out! And leave some comments on this blog!

Week away in Watsonville!

I get to spend the entire week away from home in the great town of Watsonville. I'm working at the Register-Pajaronian, filling in for the sports editor, who is on vacation with his wife, who also works at the paper.
It's fun and interesting. When I worked at the Atascadero News, we all basically worked 8-5, M-F. The paper was put to bed by 5 p.m. and we went home. But it's a twice weekly and Watsonville is a daily (M-Sa), so the deadline is about midnight or so.
It was interesting working on sports, especially on a daily. I spent last night taking calls from coaches calling in the results from their games yesterday, keeping an eye on the AP wire for news on the major league games going on for baseball, basketball and hockey.
I finally went to my hotel at 1 a.m. I never stay up that late anymore, so I was a bit of a zombie by 11 p.m.
I get to do that same thing the next four nights and I was told that last night was light.
I'll post of photos of the paper, newsroom and such. As well as Watsonville and Santa Cruz (that's where I'm at now).
Post some "love" via comments.

Step It Up seminar in SLO with Mike Larson and Brittany Hanson

So I travelled over the grade to SLO for a two-day seminar with Mike Larson and Brittany Hanson. I had a lot of fun and am revved up to make my business even better. And we got to shoot a couple different shoots with models. Check out some of my highlights from this week below.
Be sure to leave me comments!

Christian and Yohana were our "engaged" couple for a mock engagement session. They were a fun couple to work with.

Emerald was our "bride" for a bridal shoot.
After the first day of the seminar we had a contest, we broke into two teams to take some fun photos at night without using a flash. My photo, below, won the contest! Yea!

Bridal Show at Madonna Inn

Today Kelly and I headed to the Madonna Inn in SLO for Central Coast Bride's April bridal show. We had a different display than usual and a lot of bigger items to get from Atascadero to SLO in our little Mazda, but we amazingly got it all in the car, as well as the two of us. Check out the photos of our booth below to see all that we got in there. I'm still amazed we pulled it off. Luckily, we only go to a few shows a year.
Post a message and let me know what you think of our new display.
The photos below are of Kelly and I in our booth before the show opened.
A close up view of my booth. Thanks for the vase, mom!
Kelly and our friend Amy in front of a photo of her and her husband Dan. Amy is a blast to work with. I had so much fun photographing her and Dan. Amy is a massage therapist at the Lavender Rose Garden where my studio is located. She gives a killer massage. I have yet to experience a facial from her.
The last photo is of me with Anthony and Jenny, the couple I photographed last weekend in Pismo Beach--look below to see their engagement photos. I was hoping they would make it to the show today to see their photos displayed, Jenny told me last week that they had talked about it and said how cool it would be if I used their photos when I asked permission. Near the end of the show, I spotted them at the booth across from mine and waited while they checked out the booth. I was excited they were there and couldn't wait to see their reactions when they saw their photos. It was priceless, once they turned around and saw the photos, a bunch of people (family and friends) with them materialized. It was fun having them there and being so excited about my work.
Thanks for stopping by, Anthony and Jenny! It was great seeing you today!

Amy, Chad and I, and little Maxwell who didn't make it into the photos, headed out to Cambria a little more than a week ago. We had a great time out at the beach getting to know each other.

Engagement session with Jenny and Anthony

On Saturday, I met Jenny and Anthony at Pismo Beach for an engagement session--I had SO much fun. They were up for just about anything and you can tell with the photos that came out of the session.
Thank you, Anthony and Jenny, you were great!
